Spiced Mulled Wine for the Holiday Season

The raisin, almonds and spices infuse this warm festive beverage with a delicious and calming flavor.  Take a moment between sips to inhale the delightful aroma. Best enjoyed among good company!

 

 

 

 

Spiced Mulled Wine

2 bottles red wine (inexpensive works the best!)

¾ cup brown sugar

peel of ½ lemon (not grated)

1-2 cinnamon sticks

6 whole cloves

3 whole cardamom pods

½ cup organic blanched almonds

½ cup raisin or currants

In a slow cooker:

Combine all the ingredients and set on low for 8 hours.

Stovetop:

Heat red wine in a large pot until it simmers, then stir in the sugar and add the remaining ingredients.  Simmer on low for 4 to 6 hours.

*For extra cheer add a splash of port wine or brandy to each glass when serving
